Junior Board

The MathSTEM Junior Board is a leadership and service council for students, alumni, and emerging professionals who want to support MathSTEM’s mission through mentorship, community engagement, and project leadership. The Junior Board provides opportunities for members at every stage from middle school through graduate school and early career—to contribute their skills, grow as leaders, and make a meaningful impact.

The Junior Board includes a Student Board tier for current middle school, high school, and college students who want to develop leadership skills, support MathSTEM programming, and serve as youth ambassadors.

Who Can Join

The Junior Board is open to individuals 18 years and older who are committed to supporting MathSTEM’s mission through leadership, service, and community engagement. Members may include college students, graduate students, young adults, emerging professionals, and MathSTEM alumni who want to contribute their skills, experience, and passion for STEM education.

Ideal candidates demonstrate strong communication, reliability, and a genuine interest in helping shape MathSTEM programs, events, and outreach initiatives. Junior Board members serve as role models, mentors, and project contributors within the organization.

Math Competency Requirement
(Applies to ALL Junior Board Members)

All Junior Board members must demonstrate strength in three or more math topics appropriate to their grade or academic level. This ensures members can confidently support MathSTEM programs, mentor peers, and contribute meaningfully to projects.

  • Fractions & Decimals

  • Ratios & Proportions

  • Pre‑Algebra

  • Algebra I

  • Geometry

  • Algebra II

  • Trigonometry

  • Pre‑Calculus

  • Calculus

  • Statistics & Probability

  • Data Science

  • Logic & Problem Solving

  • Coding/Computational Math

  • Financial Literacy & Money Math

  • Research Methods (for college/graduate students)

Membership Criteria

All Junior Board members must:

  • Demonstrate strength in three or more math topics appropriate to their grade or academic level

  • Show interest in STEM, education, leadership, or community service

  • Communicate respectfully and professionally

  • Attend monthly meetings (virtual or in‑person)

  • Participate in at least one project, event, or committee each semester/year

  • Show responsibility, follow‑through, and a positive attitude

  • Represent MathSTEM positively at events and online

  • Provide parent/guardian consent if under 18

Note: The Junior Board is open to individuals 18 years and older who meet the membership criteria.

Important Details

  • Junior Board members must contribute a $25 annual commitment to support MathSTEM initiatives.

  • Confidential waivers are available upon request.

  • Members may serve year‑round and renew annually.

  • Leadership roles are available for active members.

  • Service hours can be documented for school or professional portfolios.

To join the Junior Board, applicants must complete the Junior Board Application Form. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation email and next steps for onboarding.
